Montague Parks & Recreation rang in the New Year with their Annual Sawmill River 10K Run in Montague Center on Friday, January 1, with one hundred and seventy eight runners crossing the finish line. The Sawmill Run hosted runners from Brussels to Maine and beyond, and it was Drew Best of Amherst who came in with the best overall time of 34:44. Natalie Mako of South Deerfield was the female winner with a final time of 39:29. Results per Division are as follows: Youth Division (Ages 18 & Under) – Female; Amanda Adams of Williamsburg (51:48), Male; Owa Hughes of Shelburne Falls (39:41), Open Division (Ages 19-39) – Female; Mako (39:29), Men; Best (34:44), Master Division (Ages 40–49) – Female; Vikki Lenhart of Amherst (44:33), Male; Bob Bezio of Erving (38:03), Senior Division (Ages 50-59) – Female; JoEllen Cameron of Conway (45:14), Male; Nat Larsen of Amherst (34:54), Senior + Division (60 & Up) – Female; Janice Shillieto of West Brookfield (46:10), Male; Rich Larsen of Shelburne (42:38). Proceeds from the event benefit MPRD’s Sponsor-A-Child Scholarship Program.
