2023 SMAC Race Series Information

Join Us!

The SMAC Race Series challenges runners of all abilities and ages to take part in as many of the 11 featured races as they can between April and October. The races encompass varying lengths and landscapes all in western Massachusetts.

Participants will earn points based on finish times. All races run count towards a participant’s total score. At the conclusion of the series, those with the most points will receive awards.

We plan to gather before and after each race , and we will provide post race snacks.

Everyone who finishes at least six of the 11 races will be eligible for awards and will receive a series tee-shirt. Prizes will be awarded at the SMAC annual meeting at the end of the year. 

Runners must register for the series at https://www.runreg.com/smac-raceseries.

  • Registration for the series is free to SMAC members
  • $25 for non members, which includes a one-year SMAC membership.

Runners will need to register for each individual race in the series that they would like to participate in separately.

Ron Hebert Road Race - Saturday, April 1
Florence, MA
Don’t miss out on being part of a local tradition. Come run one of the oldest races in New England AND the first race of the 2023 SMAC race series! The Ron Hebert Road Race offers a challenging 8-mile route through scenic Florence and Haydenville, MA. Prizes for all age group winners – and the coveted SMAC running socks for all finishers.

Coach Ray Willis 5K Run / 2K Walk - Saturday, April 15
Northampton, MA
The Second Annual Coach Ray Willis 5K Run / 2K Walk will be held at the Northampton Community Gardens (site of the Tuesday 5K series) and will raise funds for youth track. Presented by Sugarloaf Mountain Athletic Club.

Will Run for Cookies 5K - Sunday, May 7
Stanley Park, Westfield, MA
Join us to spend time with friends and family (furry companions included), run or walk, enjoy a delicious cookie, and most importantly, support Dakin Humane Society and our critical programs to keep people and pets together. Entrants receive an event shirt (if registered before April 15) and cookie

Lake Wyola Road Race - Sunday, June 11
Shutesbury, MA
This is a 4.8 mile hilly loop around Lake Wyola on pavement and dirt roads for walkers and runners. 1.5 mile fun run. Prizes, raffle, and refreshments provided. Race day registration available. All proceeds go to the Lake Wyola Association for maintenance of the lake and its surroundings.

Northampton 5K Cross Country Race - Series race Tues. July 18
Northampton, MA
SMAC 5K Cross Country Races typically start the first Tuesday in April, on the 5K XC course near the Community Gardens on Burts Pit Road in Northampton. They continue weekly through the last Tuesday in August.It is an accurately measured 5 km cross-country course through beautiful fields and woods. The starting area is located just past the Northampton Community Gardens on Burts Pit Road, one mile from the center of town. $5, participants under 18 free

Montague Mug Race - Saturday, August 19
Montague, MA
The 40th Montague Mug Race is 5.5 miles of challenging climbs,fun descents, and a flat shady finish. The race has plenty of water stops, Fire and EMS personnel on the course. Raffle, fresh fruit and baked goods at the finish. Tee shirts to first 60 entrants, mugs to top three in age groups, and pewter mugs to overall winners.

Don Maynard Memorial 5 Miler - Saturday, September 16
Green River Swimming Area, Greenfield, MA
The 5-mile course is a flat and scenic route through the Greenfield Meadows. Walkers will walk a 3-mile loop of the bike path. The first 100 entrants receive a race shirt, and fall mums for all finishers. In Don’s memory, proceeds go to the Don Maynard Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to graduating Franklin County public school seniors.
Be sure to take a dip in the river to cool off afterward!

Summit Run - Sunday, September 24
Mount Holyoke, Skinner State Park, Hadley, MA
For 39 years the Summit Run 5K has been one of the most challenging, most beautiful and most fun 5Ks in the Pioneer Valley! Join us for a 5K like no other with a summit finish line at the top of Mt. Holyoke. Join us for an unforgettable experience!

Covered Bridge Classic 10K Road Race - Sunday, October 1
Conway, MA
This scenic 10K, held during the Conway's Festival of the Hills, is a challenging point-to-point course with pavement and dirt. The course starts at the Covered Bridge and ends in Conway’s town Center (Elm St. in front of the Field Memorial Library). Once on Reeds Bridge Road, the course takes a lollypop out-and-back route to the finish. Note: The start and finish are in different locations; see the website for more information. Post-race, enjoy the Festival of the Hills, offering arts and crafts exhibits, log-splitting and skillet-toss contests, a classic New England fall parade, local musicians, food, family activities and more!

Monster Dash 5k - Saturday, October 28
Northfield, MA
A Fun 5K Road Race or Bike Ride in Old New England Town. Loop course, Mostly flat with a mild roller or two. Mix of walkers, fun runners, families who bike and/or run, and some serious runners looking for a great 5K. It starts across the street from First Parish Unitarian Church (Race Beneficiary) Finishing gifts for first 100 Racers.

Hatfield Lions Club Dan Barry Memorial 5 Mile Road Race - Sunday, November 5
Hatfield, MA
Unofficially known as "The Potato Race", because of its tradition of giving potatoes to each participant, this race has been run for more than 20 years. It is a relatively flat and fast 5 mile course. The first 100 entrants will get t-shirts and everyone gets a great meal afterwards.
